Nandita Nadkarni

Nandita is a functional potter but now finds her work taking a whole new direction.

Working on the wheel remains her main focus and influences her sculptural work.

Experimenting with different clays and stretching the boundaries of the medium allows her to create a fusion between hand-built and wheel thrown work.

The pure white surface of porcelain is like a canvas to create her henna inspired designs. Her work is individually hand thrown and each vessel is etched then the shellac is washed away to reveal a raised design. These vessels are sometimes placed on hand made bases using different clays creating a sculptural setting of the dark rough clays against the white fine porcelain.

Nandita also creates vessels with bright colours using glaze on glaze technique.
